(This question is based on a discussion with someone who had visited an ancient school of Vedic Astrology and discovered that his existence has been clearly defined, thus, creating a deep impression that if all is already known and defined – what is the impact of ‘my doing or not doing’ ?)
You’re just Matter whose journey is destined, just as how the life of Elements in the Periodic Table in a Chemistry book have defined properties as known to a Chemist. In the same line, you are one and the same for an Astrologer or a great Saint – a super, super chemist who could track you down in time, from birth to birth with his higher intelligence at work than an ordinary Chemist whose intelligence is only limited to predicting how the Elements would behave as they play along with each other.
You can surely be amazed at how so much could be seen before time with such precision. It is no doubt intriguing, but, basically this being ‘zapped’ is all happening because we are programmed to be ignorant of both past and future lives. That is one of the properties of us as Matter.
The nature of Constant is changelessness, which is the aim of a Seeker, to be free from the cycle of change from birth to birth. It is definitely not escapism, but a longing to be back home or even being ‘at home’ as seen in the lives of some intensely busy yet realized souls who walked on this planet and are still around us. Achievement of such a state does not bring life to a halt, it does not result in ‘freedom from action, but freedom in action’.
Being amazed by someone seeing your past, present and future life is truly confining and perceiving yourself as Matter whose very existence is predictable, with all the information known upon it by an intelligence higher than your own; at present. But again, you are really higher than even intelligence, as you are that Spirit and not Matter.
Across time, and across many births you have burdened yourself with Matter and have come to believe that you are that. It is a gross misapprehension, as you are not that, but that Constant which is as unaffected just as the light from the street lamp is, under which passes a marriage procession or even a funeral procession. You are that Light, you are changeless, that witness, that immortal Consciousness not bound by time or space. You are eternal and all pervading. You are Bliss. You are One without a second and have always been so, but never known yourself to be so. This is what the scriptures expound, which most of us are unfamiliar about, and so our real identity seems unreal.
However, the experience of visiting past or future tellers confirms only one point, that this ‘technology’ with all the information about all that is part of creation across the planes of time exists, and has existed since the ancient times. That’s where the appreciation must stop, as beyond that, it is suffocating your own Self by believing yourself to be limited and bound. It is not living in denial, but a rejection of your own true Glory.
No one can deny the phenomena of destiny, but how you meet it is what counts, and that is by your Free Will. A future teller may predict the various events to unfold, but stops where Free Will begins resulting in only indicating the various possibilities which lie ahead. If there was no Free Will, there would not have been any confusion whether Prince Sidharth would have become Buddha or not, at the time of his birth.
Indeed, there lie multiple choices in front of us always. Whether we give in to our impulses or apply our Free Will depends on the development of our Awareness of the fact that we are not that ‘reactive matter’ but that Spirit, the knowledge of which guides the Matter which we are enrobed by.
The Gift of Free Will and it’s Divine Power
No one explains upon the gift of Free Will, it’s possible growth and it’s impact in a better and a simpler way than The Great Master, Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa (Swami Vivekananda’s Guru) – Man is like a cow tied to a pole with a rope, bound by the karmic debts and human nature, and the amount of free will he has is analogous only to the amount of freedom the rope allows. The Great Master goes on to further add that when a person turns to God and spiritual practice, the length of the rope of karma increases; in other words, one’s freedom increases in proportion to one’s spiritual progress and the action of divine grace.
How and When do we ‘Open the Gift’ of Free Will ?
The way to open this Divine Gift is through the purity of the heart which we all have, and not taking time for granted that we will get the ‘perfect opportunity on a bright sunny day’ to sit ourselves down to start knowing ourselves, our Spiritual Self. Having a pure heart and not leading it inwards, towards the Spiritual Self, is then exposing the heart to being crushed in the outside world and becoming sour. That would be a terrible waste of precious time and accumulated ‘karma’. The heart is meant to be led inwards to know it’s true nature – the Spiritual Self, to understand life, it’s true purpose and to keep building a mental armour through the faculty of Free Will to face life as it unfolds, eventually welcoming death as only another event. Thus, the time to START opening the gift is NOW !
The ‘pure, selfless heart’ of a Seeker
In the course of self discovery, all accumulated efforts or ‘karma’ would surely be carried over to the next birth, but the true seeker does not even consider these benefits, but applies himself to a life of higher action out of pure love of the higher and without any selfish expectations. It’s a silent journey from questions, anxiety, niggling doubts to a firm FAITH.
Essentially, for the pure one, no external initiation is required except his own FREE WILL to expand out from the shell, to break on through to the other side…..to only discover the wholeness !
